Pop art critique

1.  Pop art originated in the 1950's as an art based on modern popular culture. It includes diverse ways to represent minimalism such as illustrations of cans and bottles, as well as portraits of characters that are prominent in modern popular culture. Famous pop art artist Andy Warhol had an impact on the movement for creating the most famous pop art illustrations. He created portraits of famous pop icon like Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson, as well as illustrations of Coca Cola bottles and Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup cans. Pop Art celebrates everyday objects and using bright colors that usually complement each other. My art was a modern take on pop art because I used a portrait of a modern artist in today's culture. Alice glass was who I decided to use for the portrait because she is a popular artist in electronic music. I made a portrait of Alice Glass using bright complementary colors and not painting the specific details. Mainly painting the showdows and highlights of the portrait and using colorful vibrant colors because it is a popular thing to use in pop art.
The successes in my project were that the art piece had good craftsmanship and the portrait looks very similar to he photograph I used to base the art piece on. My challenges were keeping up with the due date and finishing on time. This was a challenge because I like to spend a lot of time on my work so that it comes out be way I pictured it but it takes me a lot of art. If I could do anything differently I would makes the due date longer so that I could finish on time.

Val-I love the texture you implemented with acrylic. I also like how you presented it with such a abstract rasp and feel to it.
Jess- sandra I enjoy the colors that you used. Most of my extension is on her face and neck because of the bright yellow you used and the way the texture looks on her hair is phenomenal.
Jamie- I love the texture and the colors you used to show pop art.

pop art

For my own version of modern Pop Art, I created a clay over sized model of a mouth licking a lollipop. The lollipop is a Blow Pop, a modern and popular candy. There is a large amount of mouths, tongues, and lips used in Pop Art illustrations. that was my reasoning of making an over sized mouth, lips, and tongue. I used bright colors as well because it is what most Pop Art artists use for their art. The entire art piece is suppose to represent many parts of the Pop Art movement. It includes the modern candy Blow Pop as well as incorporating the bright colors and popular use of mouths, lips, and tongues in the movement.

I had more challenges than successes during the process of making my Pop Art artwork. The art piece was very large and time consuming and i had a challenge with keeping up with the due date. My timing was not as good as I would've liked it to be. Using clay was also a challenge because it needed to be constantly moist so that it wouldn't dry up and be unusable. My last challenge was that I over estimated myself with the work i had to do. i did not finish half of the piece on time because of this. My main success was that the lips, mouth, and tongue turned out looking very well and i did not have to restart the process of clay shaping.
