pop art

Pop art originated in the 1950's as an art based on modern popular culture. It includes diverse ways to represent minimalism such as illustrations of cans and bottles, as well as portraits of characters that are prominent in modern popular culture. Famous pop art artist Andy Warhol had an impact on the movement for creating the most famous pop art illustrations. He created portraits of famous pop icon like Marilyn Monroe and Michael Jackson, as well as illustrations of Coca Cola bottles and Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup cans. Pop Art celebrates everyday objects and using bright colors that usually complement each other.

For my own version of modern Pop Art, I created a clay over sized model of a mouth licking a lollipop. The lollipop is a Blow Pop, a modern and popular candy. There is a large amount of mouths, tongues, and lips used in Pop Art illustrations. that was my reasoning of making an over sized mouth, lips, and tongue. I used bright colors as well because it is what most Pop Art artists use for their art. The entire art piece is suppose to represent many parts of the Pop Art movement. It includes the modern candy Blow Pop as well as incorporating the bright colors and popular use of mouths, lips, and tongues in the movement.

I had more challenges than successes during the process of making my Pop Art artwork. The art piece was very large and time consuming and i had a challenge with keeping up with the due date. My timing was not as good as I would've liked it to be. Using clay was also a challenge because it needed to be constantly moist so that it wouldn't dry up and be unusable. My last challenge was that I over estimated myself with the work i had to do. i did not finish half of the piece on time because of this. My main success was that the lips, mouth, and tongue turned out looking very well and i did not have to restart the process of clay shaping.

Furniture critique & artist statement

Vision
Process
Strengths and weaknesses

As I began to plan for the furniture project, my first thought was to use the resource less people were planning to use which was rope. My first vision was to create a chair using a tire and rope. When I didn't bring the supplies I needed, I changed my idea and used supplies given to me. The vision of this chair was for it to be a small art piece rather than a functioning piece of furniture. I wanted it to be a solid color to keep it simple and more modern looking. It did come out as planned.
The process of making the chair was quick. The first thing I did was cover the inside of the crate with paper. I cut and added the legs to the crate using screws. Afterwards, I added two pieces of the end of a hockey stick for the back rest. The rope was installed last and glued in with hot glue. The final process was to spray paint the entire thing the color muted mint green. It took around 6 classes to finish it.
The strongest part of my furniture project was how much work I got done before the due date. I was able to finish the project more than a week before the due date. Though I did struggle in the beginning to figure out what I wanted to do. I knew what I wanted to incorporate in my project. I struggled with my indecisiveness in what I wanted to create.

Color Wheel

I made a traditional color wheel. Before I started, I researched primary colors, secondary colors, and tertiary colors. Second, I researched tones, shades, and tints and how colors complement each other. In order to create the project I began outlining the circle of the wheel, and how many colors would go in the color wheel. Then labeled where the colors go and started painting and mixing the shades, tints, and tones of the color. The background was done at the end. The project seemed to be theory and design based bruise its technical and cannot change due to history or culture. If I could change one thing about the project it would be how simple it was and I enjoyed that we got to mix our shades and tints and tones.

Intention

1. I am thankful for the people who care about me and take time out of their lives to give me attention. I'm thankful for them because I know a lot of people don't truly care about other, they just want to hear your problems just for the fun of it. But there are people who don't even know me in person and still care more for me than people who do. I am also thankful for all the interesting people I've met and got to know. They've made me think about how every person has their own personality and likes and it's all really interesting to know why people like things and why people are the way that they are. I'm thankful for the people who talk to me at schoo because most of my friends are outside of my school. Iike that I have people here who don't leave me out and aren't quick to judge me. But I am also thankful for the friends that I have outside of school because they're the ones who invite me out and they're the ones who actually want to spend time with me. I'm thankful for everyone who has helped me in my life so far.

2. my intention for the time between now and winter break for school is to pass the two classes I am currently failing. I intend to turn in as much work as I can remebmber to turn in because that has been my struggle this school year. I forget to turn anything in and it makes me fail all of my classes. My intentions for outside of school is to work on making new friends. I started making more new friends outside of school this past month and I'd like to keep making more. Usually my social anxiety makes it hard for me to meet new people but recently I have pushed myself to do those things. So new friends that will last is my intention for this time period.

One word: Push

Scary Story Artist Statement

An infection that has started in Africa has made an emergency broadcast all over the country. This is officially the beginning of a worldwide plague . The first infected human was accidentally let go as a patient from the university of blahblah and has made their way half across the country infected thousands and thousands of citizens every hour. The plague is air-born and extremely contagious. It is recommended to not share any hygiene products or anything that can contain another persons DNA. It is not determined whether there is a cure for this disease but if you are concerned about this please keep yourself, your children, and your loved ones QUARANTINED.

Our first interview is with three of the first quarantined young adults. Three females with the plague have been isolated for months in the same quarantine room. Our first question with the females was ,"how is your sanity due to the length of time being away from other humans. They're first reaction was a confused look to our reporter. Our reporters herd muffles inside the room. Moments later, one of the females stood up and in a blink of an eye she sprinted toward the reporter and was intercepted by the glass wall between her and the reporter. Blood stained the glass. Soon after, the other two females stood up and walked over to the females that was bleeding and begin attacking her flesh. Our reporters were asked to leave. We now report that the plague's most deadly side effect is cannibalism.
